Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you have a studio where I can bring my pet for a session?

A: No, all my sessions are done "on location". The location is yours to choose - most clients prefer to have the session at home, but some like a nearby park or trail, or even a city setting. What's most important is that it's a place where you and your pet are comfortable. It's also nice to have a photographic memory of your pets in the places you remember them - not posed in front of a dropcloth with a plastic tree.

Q: But my home isn't particularly breathtaking - shouldn't we go somewhere more "photogenic"?

A: You'd be surprised how minor of an issue this is - after all, we're featuring your pet, not your dining room set. Take a look at some of my samples and you'll see that in most, the elements of the home are very subtle - enough to look familiar, but definitely not a major component of the shot.

Q: How much do you charge for prints?

A: Nothing! One of the greatest advantages of my service is that you own a CD with the images - you can upload them to print online through the service of your choice, take them to a one-hour photo lab, or even to a full-service professional lab in town. This allows you to control which prints you want, when you want them - and you pay competitive low retail prices.

Q: What should I do to prepare for the home session?

A: Don't worry about it - pets always steal the limelight in the photographs. Generally getting your place straightened up is helpful, to remove excess clutter in the pictures, but I'll work to feature areas and backgrounds that look good. Check out some samples of past work and you'll see normal lived-in homes.

Q: Do I need special lighting, or lots of natural daylight in my house in order to get good results?

A: No - I bring portable, lightweight, battery-powered lighting equipment to your home so you don't need anything special.

Q: Do you take photographs of people with their pets as well?

A: Sure! This is completely up to you. Some people aren't interested in being in the shots, and some prefer it. If you want shots of you with your pet for some specific purpose be sure to let me know so we can make sure we get what you need. I can also spend half the time photographing your pets alone, so you'll have some of each. Also, check out my gallery of people with their pets so you get an idea of what my shots look like - they're typically not too "traditionally posed", so make sure this is what you're looking for.
